Posted by: gunne on Wednesday, November 22, 2006 - 19:27
Submitted by gunne
A few days ago DesktopLinux.com had a talk with South Africa native and current London resident Mark Shuttleworth, founder of Canonical Ltd. and the Ubuntu Linux distribution, where Mark amongst other thing said that widespread adoption of Linux on the desktop -- so long-awaited by many people -- "is just a matter of time" and he thinks Linux will become the dominant platform.

He also said that next Ubuntu release, the "Feisty Fawn", will be due during the course of April 2007.

The total number of machines beeing upgraded is around 14000.

Boot the installer from OpenFirmware with

boot cd install/pegasos

The bad news is that X won't start after a default installation. It's a rather easy to fix by simply forcing use of proc instead of sysfs when X scans for pci devices, Ubuntu added a patch that made scanpci in X use sysfs instead by default which currently causes problems on Pegasos.

So we at Pegasos.org prepared a...

Fedora Core 6, Zod, was released about 30 minutes ago. The website is heavily loaded but the torrents work just fine.
A review of some of the features is here. This time X.org is 3D accellerated - just as Suse Linux Enterprise Desktop 10.

Torrents are available for x86, x86-64 and PowerPC.
