| | | | The Mac-on-Linux project has got a new website. He moved it to Sourceforge and is currently working on a wiki-based documentation.
Mac-on-Linux is a virtualization project for running Mac OS (X) on top of Linux/PPC at near native speeds.

| | | | Ars Technica carries a well-written article about the numerous problems Apple have had since their transition to x86. It's about MacBooks bursting into flames, swelling batteries - which were eventually recalled - and heat.
Every company has problems in the beginning of a new product. Apple, however, has always had a very high quality control and the problems have been far less with Apple products than others. Now with the x86 line they have had many serious problems in just a few months time.
Did they rush to x86?

| | | | Today, at WWDC Apple announced the transition of the remaining two PowerPC machines to Intel Quad Xeon - MacPro and Xserve.
The MacPro will replace the PowerMac Quad G5 with a dual-core Xeon 64-bit CPU up to 3 GHz. The Xserve ships with the same processor and is pretty much the same as the Xserve G5 - with a few exceptions of course. It now takes both SATA and SAS-drives up to 2.25 TB using three 750 GB drives.
The transition took fourteen months. On June 6 2005 Steve Jobs announced the move to Intel.

| | | | PegXLin Developers tells us today that version 2.0 of the Mac-on-Linux LiveCD PegXMac has been released. It runs on Ubuntu Dapper and is for the Pegasos 2 and Open Desktop Workstation only. Further development is needed for Articia-based Pegasos 1 and AmigaONE.

| | | | Today, Apple's CEO Steve Jobs presented the first Intel-based Macs - the iMac and MacBook Pro. The MacBook Pro will have an Intel Core-Duo CPU running from 1.67 GHz to 1.83 GHz. Harddrives will be 80 to 100 GB, 1 GB RAM and 256 MB Graphics mem (ATi Mobility X1600). This is supposed to be up to four times faster than the PowerBook G4.
Price will be 1999 USD to 2499 USD.
The iMac will start at 1299 USD with the same graphics chipset and CPU as MacBook Pro and up to 2 GHz. Screen sizes will be 17" and 20". This is supposed to be up to two times faster than the iMac G5.

| | | | Yesterday, Apple presented upgrades of the PowerBook and PowerMac line. The PowerMac is now available in Dual Dual-core PPC 970, each running at 2.5 GHz.

| | | | David Bentham's Mac-on-Linux Live-CD PegXMac is now available in version 1.4.3 for Pegasos II. Among other features, support for the operating system version MacOS X 10.4 ("Tiger") has been added.

| | | | The x86 Developer version of Mac OS X Tiger has leaked. It appears this installs on normal x86 machines. The developer machines shown on WWDC were based on Intel motherboards and P4 CPUs.
It is available on major Torrent trackers as we speak.

| | | | Apple's CEO Steve Jobs officially announced today that they will switch CPU architecture to x86. OS X Tiger for x86 is already available and a 3.6 GHz P4 Developer Kit is available in two weeks. OS X Tiger x86 will emulate PPC software natively and transparent to the user.

| | | | C|Net News.com has an article with further info about Apple's rumoured switch to x86 CPU architecture. The announcement is expected official on Monday at Apple's Worldwide Developer Conference in San Francisco, where Steve Jobs will hold the keynote speech.
The article says that the lower-end Macs, such as Mac Mini, would move to x86 in Mid-2006 and PowerMacs a year later. With BSD originally programmed for x86, Steve Jobs has said OS X can easily run on x86.
