Hardware - glxgears fps in Ubuntu Linux gunne - Oct 22, 2005 - 12:26 Post subject: glxgears fps in Ubuntu Linux
Hi,
Sometimes people asks for how different supported graphicscard works with the Pegasos.
As the Radeon 9250 is available in a version with 64-bit memory interface and a version with 128-bit memory interface I made a smaller test with glxgears in Ubutntu Linux with this two cards.
The card with 128-bit memory interface is for instance by Asus said to offer up to 45% more speed then the 64-bit Radeon 9250.
The card with 64-bit memory interface gave around 520.000 fps.
The card with 128-bit memory interface gave around 620.000 fps.
Difference then, c:a 20%
Both cards were equipped with 128MB of memory.
If anybody have made better tests, please feel free to post here Trizt - Oct 22, 2005 - 12:31 Post subject: RE: glxgears fps in Ubuntu Linux
i don't think you will notice any speed difference on LinuxPPC as the drivers aren't that good.

trizt,
The small test I made was in Linux PPC (Ubuntu Linux on the Pegasos)

and glxgears is not a benchmark tool gunne - Oct 23, 2005 - 07:30 Post subject: RE: glxgears fps in Ubuntu Linux
lisardman,
Anyone is welcome to do better test, as I wrote. lisardman - Oct 23, 2005 - 08:10 Post subject: RE: glxgears fps in Ubuntu Linux

Btw, since when did Quake3 became a benchmark tool ? Trizt - Oct 24, 2005 - 02:50 Post subject: RE: glxgears fps in Ubuntu Linux
Quakes have had built in tests and as you have it for more than one OS, it's a quite good tool to compare graphics preformance between OS:s.

many tests at eg. Tom's hardware they are using quake3 as a graphic benchmark tool together with PcMark and so on..

Back when Quake 3 was quite new nVidia used it for a lot of their benchmarks. They even used the Linux version since it ran faster than on windows.
Considering Q3 is filled with subdivision surfaces it is a much better benchmark tool than glxgears.

Quake 3 is mainstream and good for marketing.
