Just installed Fedora Core 6 on my PegII G3/600, and I'm impressed ! Works like a charm, is a lot faster that Debian, slightly faster than Kubuntu 6.10, and most of all it's stable (which Kubuntu 6.10 is not always yet). And it was pretty simple to install. Needed just small modification to Gunnes Grub script for Ubuntu to make it boot after installing from the DVD (The installation itself can be started direct from OF).

I liked RedHat more back in the good old time, before both RedHat8 and Fedora.

Gentoo PPC been up and running for 152 days today, so it starts to feel somewhat stable Razz

Gentoo is probably very stable and fast , but the istallation is pain in the ass... Never got it to work, tried for 2 weeks, then tested the others and installed 3 different distributions each taking about 30mins....

Much depends on which stage level you decide to install Gentoo at, today the default is stage3 and you can use those precompiled packages too and you can get everything installed on a hour, of course nothing as fast as the 20 mins it used to install RedHat7.3. The main requierment for the Gentoo install is to read the installation handbook, if you aren't expert and know how things works in Gentoo.

Jepp, I have installed several FC6 at school and it just works(tm).

There is a nice bug in the installer, though. If you click 'Fedora Extras'
the installer crash and restart. Razz

There been bugs with selecting "Extras" in earlier versions, think it's been part of the installer since RedHat 7.0.

Gunne:
Yes, with Open Firmware there is no need for GRUB.

excuse me gunne.. I can't understand now what you are talking about? what has grub to do with FC6? except that FC6 uses grub as a default bootloader?

hello gunne..

why do you have to trash the thread with your bogus talk? If you have nothing better to come with, please be quiet instead.

Hi lisardman,

No problem, I can keep quiet.

Enjoy Fedora, and have a pleasant weekend.

I tried FC6 today. Installation worked without any problem (even 'Fedora Extras' works) but how the heck do I boot the installed system?
