First of all: Mupper is great .. that's why I use it...

Unfortunatelly there are some probs on some of my 4 Peg.

1) One of my Peg2 (G4) has a Symbios 875 scsi-controler. Mupper's kernel seems to scan the bus, finding a yamaha scsi-cdrw, which seems to answer as 7 LUNs, than the boot process locks.

2) Another Peg2 (G3) often locks when lots of data is sent to the Peg2, using the VIA chip. This happens, when the drive-image is beeing restored from my backup-server.

Can anyone give me a hint, what's the cause of this ?

bye

I tried 0.5 and 1.0 and also the GentooLiveDVD.

My first guess on the network prob was a cooling problem, so I increased the fan, which lowered the temp from 54 to 36 degrees.

If I use netcat for receiving data on the PEG, transferrates are very good, about 9Mb/s .. but after 3minutes, the netcat-terminal prints lots of "t"''s, the mouse and keyboard become slower and slower, the the machine locks. I got the same locks when using samba ....

I also use a PEG2 G4, which has no problems on receiving 100's of Gigabytes using Suse10.
But Suse10 is not a recoveryCD like the above, so this is no real choise...

I do think this is related to a kernel problem.. sinc Suse10 has a later kernel than Mupper v1.0. I can promise that Mupper v1.1 will have the latest kernel. I am working o a updated version.

Judas, what does dmesg give you when the P2/G3 starts to crawl?

Do you use the internal audio (driver/module loaded, lsmod should show you that) on the P2/G3? For me the interal audio hasn't been stable, crashing and at the same time taking the network too, as the share IRQ.

Hi,
I tried to get some dmesg, but whenever the machine starts to crawl, it becomes that slow, there's no chance to get any output .. and after a few seconds it locks completely. DamnComputer

Now i tried to send 40G down to Peg without wrinting to harddisk... It worked. Maybe it's the deadly combination of NET and HD traffic... Twisted Evil

On my PEG1(April2) I had some other problems: Suddenly the transfer became very slow .. dmesg showed lots of timeouts .. after 5 minutes it returned to normal speed again .. but there just the network was slow, not the complete machine ... Zzz

I'll try stresstests next time ( just network, just HD and combinations) to see, what causes this ... Hau

well mupper should not work good on a peg1.. since I don't have one to test on.. I did test that.. I don't have any problems on my peg2 I have tested two of them.. maybe bad hardware or maybe buggy 3th party software..

@judas:
Peg1 is a problematic machine, I guess much depends on manufactoring-batch and what kind of SIMMs used, I can say I never got Linux to boot on the machine I had before my Peg2, in a quite early state of the bootup the whole got serious kernel panics.

On the Peg2/G3 you could switch to console placed on F12, at least the distros I have used, they have system logs displayed in live, maybe you manage to see something there when the machine begins to crawl.
