Apple Finalizes x86 Transistion

Today, at WWDC Apple announced the transition of the remaining two PowerPC machines to Intel Quad Xeon - MacPro and Xserve.

The MacPro will replace the PowerMac Quad G5 with a dual-core Xeon 64-bit CPU up to 3 GHz. The Xserve ships with the same processor and is pretty much the same as the Xserve G5 - with a few exceptions of course. It now takes both SATA and SAS-drives up to 2.25 TB using three 750 GB drives.

The transition took fourteen months. On June 6 2005 Steve Jobs announced the move to Intel.

And now we have yet another crappy x86 "manufacturer", sadly now it's so damn difficult to get hold of a new iBook/PowerBook.
