The list of the Top 500 Supercomputers has been released. As already reported IBM's Blue Gene/L kicked Japanese Earth Simulator from the throne. Its max Tflops was twice as much as the Japanese - 70.72.

Top 500 List

This Blue Gene/L prototype consists of 32768 PPC 440 CPUs at 700 MHz.

What is interesting about this list is how IBM re-gained the top spot. Look at the CPU used...:-)

Here is a better chart:

http://www.bayarea.net/~kins/AboutMe/CPUs.html

The PPC 440 IP was sold to IBM to AMCC earlier this year. The PPC 440 is a slow 32-bit CPU when compared to what is available in the market, but they probably had a few in inventory. If you have any doubts about that, please scroll down the page and look what is coming...

"Not Ready in Time for November 2004 List"

131,072 nodes!!!! It may be an old CPU and they do not even own the IP any more, but IBM is now again in FIRST Place.

BTW, you can be sure they understand "marketing."
