CES 2005: Nothing Exciting in desktop HDDs 2005

Gundeep Hora of Cooltechzone wrote an article about desktop harddrive advancement shown at CES 2005. 2005 appears to be a slow year for harddrives - both internal and external.

In late 2004 Maxtor had the time to introduce drives with 16 MB cache and that will - most likely - be copied by other manufactors. No speed improvements from 7200 RPM are to be expected. It appears the manufactors are waiting for S-ATA II - but that depends on the motherboard-makers.

Western Digital's 10000 RPM S-ATA Raptor drives will probably remain popular among enthusiasts and servers throughout 2005.
