EU Software Patent Directive Getting Hot
Posted by: ironfist on Sunday, July 03, 2005 - 13:58

On July 6th the European Parliament will vote either 'yes' or 'no' to US-style software patents. To stop the patents they need a minimum of 367 votes. Everyone absent from the voting will automatically vote 'yes'. The story over at Slashdot gives you more info and links to what you can do to stop software patents.

As the way that the bill has been introduced is against all EU rules, shouldn't the vote here be quite pointless as the directive wouldn't be legal?

Sadly I think Microsoft wins over EU this time and we will get a software-patent tyrany and byebye to Gnu/Linux, MPlayer and all other opensource projects.
