| | | | HPCWire is reporting that Terra Soft Solutions has been contracted by Sony Computer Entertainment Inc to build the world's first running Cell supercomputer with Playstation 3-boards. They have built a large datacenter with room for 2400 1U servers. Terra Soft will be managing two clusters for Sony, dubbed E.coli and Amoeba. E.coli will serve as a test system for software development, optimization, and testing. Amoeba will be the production system, and it will be utilized by universities and the Department of Energy laboratories for life sciences research.
Both clusters will run the new Yellow Dog Linux 5.0 for Cell.
IT Manager's Journal has a more in-depth article about the cluster and the company behind it.
