Posted by: kozz on Wednesday, October 14, 2009 - 18:47
Submitted by metalmac
The MorphOS development team is proud to announce the public release of MorphOS 2.4, the first ever public version to install on Mac mini G4 machines. In addition to the extended hardware support, existing users will benefit from various bug fixes and a few new features. For an overview of the included changes, please read the release notes.

We strongly urge owners of Mac mini G4 computers to carefully read our installation and troubleshoot guides before they attempt to install MorphOS for the first time. Existing users can upgrade via the familiar procedure but are encouraged to read the guides as well. MorphOS 2.4 is available for download in our files section.

In related news, MorphOS 2.4 will be demonstrated at the upcoming Amiga Meeting in Bad Bramstedt. Interested users will be able to pay and register MorphOS at the event.

I have to say that this won't increase the MorphOS user base, it will allow slightly more has been hardware, will we see a version which supports Oki C810n? It has a nice PowerPC 405 200 MHz.

The major problem will always be that up to date hardware, as long as MorphOS won't support another architecture and at that point there will be a lot more competition.

I think this is a great step for MorphOS!

It doesn't really matter about business or market penetration.
MorphOS nor AmigaOS will ever be ported to any up-to-date
hardware. They will always only be used by hobbyists. Seeing
it like that I think it's great that hobbyists now can double the
speed from Pegasos 2 G4 and have many more machines to
choose from.

There were hundreds of thousands of Mac Mini PowerPC sold.
There are many available on eBay, and will be for a few years
to come.
