| | | | A newly formed party named "The Pirate Party" (Piratpartiet) has been founded. They started yesterday and are now collecting 2000 valid signatures to be allowed to campaign seriously in the 2006 Swedish Parliament Election.
To get into the Parliament you need 4% of the votes (225000 votes) and over 1 million Swedes are pirates in terms of file sharing.
The party's goal is to remove all copyrights and intellectual property, effectively legalize all file sharing. International copyright treaties within UN, WTO and EU will be ignored. The personal integrity will be much stronger protected by law and noone owns your personal data but yourself.
They have a few more goals. They are staying out of "normal" politics of welfare, etc.

I don't think they will get enough votes to get a mp. Even if there are one million people in sweden who does download illegal copies of movies, music, games and books from the net, the majority of them don't have the right to vote as they are minors and as downloading ain't a major crime, the police won't be able to search the premises without there are any other crime involved for which you can be convicted to imprisonment, the rest of the downloaders don't mind that much about the whole thing, they have more important things to take care of as how to get the money last a whole month, child care and so on...
