| | | | Intel has released the drivers for the Intel 965 Express graphics chipset under GPL. This is a major push for Linux on other architectures than x86 and other operating systems.

The Intel Open Source Technology Center graphics team is pleased to announce the immediate availability of free software drivers for the Intel® 965 Express Chipset family graphics controller. These drivers include support for 2D and 3D graphics features for the newest generation Intel graphics architecture.

| | | | MDGrape-3 (formerly known as Institute of Physical & Chemical Research) in Yokohama has built a supercomputer that breaks the 1 Petaflops barrier. This supercomputer is three times faster than the Blue Gene/L - the currently fastest supercomputer out there.
The cost for MDGrape-3 was just 9 million USD which equals to 15 USD per Gigaflop. The Blue Gene/L solution costs 140 USD per Gigaflop. So how did they manage to keep the costs at 9 million? Well, they had lots of support from Intel, SGi Japan and NEC. The supercomputer runs on 4808 Dual-core Intel Xeon chips. The clock frequency is yet unknown.
