The Remote Desktop client allows computers to connect to Microsoft Windows XP Pro, 2000 Server (with Terminal Services), or Windows 2003 servers for remote management and operability of those systems.  It allows the user to fully use the remote computer from any location - as long as both machines are online and remote desktop has been enabled on the Windows host.

Thank You Poland letter
Posted by: gunne on Saturday, January 01, 2005 - 22:46

A Web site set up to thank Poland for its last-minute intervention, which prevented the EU Council from ratifying the Computer Implemented Inventions Directive last week, has collected over 25,000 names.

You find the webpage here

Further according to ZDNet...

Klaus Knopper, the founder of Linux Live CD Knoppix, said the project will not be able to continue as public and open, downloadable software if the patent directive is passed.

"No money that I could charge for Knoppix would allow me to pay for the upcoming lawsuits or patent claims of companies who sue me for violation of about 900 software patents that are possibly used in the public Debian Linux software," said Knopper.

"Those who value freedom and competition have received two nice Christmas gifts the week before Christmas. First, new EU member Poland does not allow the introduction of innovation- and job-killer software patents through the diplomatic back-door. And now the European Court decides that Microsoft should not get another four years to further harm its competition" says Georg Greve, President of the Free Software Foundation Europe (FSFE).

The decision about software patents within EU have been put on hold again, on the 21 of December.

This happened because of a request from Poland.

Some part and the council wanted first to decide on the basis of a majority that existed on May 18th.

Also German Minister of Justice reacts favorably to the Polish move; Read here

The mayor of Munich, Christian Ude, has spoken out again and welcomes the decision by the EU Council to take more time for its decision on software patents. The Linux migration by the Munich city administration is one of the most observed IT projects in the world. Since the groundbreaking decision to embark on that project, Mr. Ude is relatively well-known in IT circles worldwide (if not by his name, then at least for the migration project).
