| | | | Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory and IBM announced on Thursday the latest version of the Blue Gene/L Supercomputer. This one carries 65536 PowerPC 4xx CPUs and more than doubled its own speed record from 136.8 teraflops to 280.6! The earlier record was set with only half the amount of CPUs.
This supercomputer will work together will a 100 teraflops POWER5-based cluster named ASC Purple.
The supercomputer will be used for nuclear simulations.
